77 Pegasi is a red M-type giant burning at 619 light-years inside the great square of Pegasus, the winged horse of the autumn sky. Its temperate surface, barely three thousand degrees, radiates the ruddy hue typical of stars that have exhausted hydrogen and swollen to colossal sizes. The light reaching us tonight departed as Cervantes was beginning to shape Don Quixote.

77 Pegasi lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is September: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
