What is 72 Pegasi

72 Pegasi hangs from the square of the winged horse with an unmistakable amber glow: a K-type giant whose light crosses some 549 light-years. It set out in the middle of the 15th century, when the workshops of the early Renaissance were reshaping Europe's gaze upon the world. Against the blue blaze of Markab or Algenib, this star offers a warm counterpoint, quiet, almost bronze.

72 Pegasi lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is October, when it culminates around midnight.

From London it culminates about 70° above the horizon.
From New York it culminates about 81° above the horizon.
From Sydney it culminates about 25° above the horizon.

It can be seen from anywhere north of 59° S.
