What is 72 Pegasi
72 Pegasi hangs from the square of the winged horse with an unmistakable amber glow: a K-type giant whose light crosses some 549 light-years. It set out in the middle of the 15th century, when the workshops of the early Renaissance were reshaping Europe's gaze upon the world. Against the blue blaze of Markab or Algenib, this star offers a warm counterpoint, quiet, almost bronze.
Where it is and when to see it
72 Pegasi lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is October: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
