Cool red starIts story
55 Pegasi is an aged red giant on the asymptotic branch, swollen to forty-six times the Sun's radius. It glows with a muted reddish hue 329 light-years off, radiating nearly five hundred times the solar light despite a surface barely above 4,000 K. The light arriving tonight set out when Spain was still entering democracy, and it burns with the terminal calm of a star that has spent all its hydrogen.
