Its story

12 Cephei is a red M-type giant pulsing at 458 light-years inside King Cepheus, guardian of the celestial north pole. Its cool, swollen, ruddy atmosphere marks the late chapter of a long thermal journey that has carried it far from the solar state. Cepheus hosts the famous Delta Cephei, prototype of the Cepheids; this giant breathes in the same celestial neighborhood, without pulsating like its renowned companion.
