26 Cephei is a blue supergiant of B type set in Cepheus, the Ethiopian king and father of Andromeda in Greek myth. Its surface hovers near twenty thousand kelvin and it radiates with an intensity that places it among the hottest stars the human eye can perceive from Earth. It shines in a northern circumpolar region where the sky never quite shuts down completely, close to the summer track of the Milky Way.
Where it is and when to see it
26 Cepheus lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is October: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
