In Cepheus, beside the mythic king of the northern sky, burns a very hot blue B-type star about 1510 light-years away. Its light departed around the year 516, while Boethius was writing «The Consolation of Philosophy» amid the ruins of the Western Roman Empire. Its surface comfortably exceeds ten thousand degrees, far from the Sun's tempered glow.

HIP 106227 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is October: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
