What is Kappa Pegasi

Kappa Pegasi is an F-type star roughly 112 light-years away, set in one of the legs of the winged horse. Behind its apparently single glow hides one of the sky's most studied multiple systems: three components locked in a complex dance, two of them so close that only spectroscopy reveals them. It is a relatively nearby neighbor, a white-yellow light pulsing with the combined energy of several stars at once.

Kappa Pegasi lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is September: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
