What is Xi Pegasi

Xi Pegasi is a yellow-white type F star lying only 53 light-years away, which makes it one of the Sun's relatively close neighbours. Hotter and more luminous than our own star, it shines in the head of the winged horse and shares a system with a lower-mass companion in a long orbital waltz. To the naked eye it looks like a single light; a decent telescope splits the pair.

Xi Pegasi lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is September: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
