What is 44 Capricorni
44 Capricorni is a white A-type star pulsing at 436 light-years within the sea-goat, that hybrid creature of the ancient Sumerians and Babylonians combining the body of a goat with the tail of a fish. Hotter and more luminous than the Sun, its light crosses a region of sky where the ecliptic dips to its southernmost point each winter solstice, marking the famous tropic that bears its name.

44 Capricorni lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
