What is 4 Capricorni
4 Capricorni is a yellow G-type star, a distant cousin of the Sun though more luminous, lying some three hundred and sixteen light-years away. Its light crossed space for three centuries before reaching us, departing when great navigators were still charting the world's oceans. Within Capricornus —the oldest and most modest sign of the southern zodiac— it forms part of the line of faint stars that traces the figure of the celestial sea-goat.
Where it is and when to see it
4 Capricorni lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is July: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
