What is Gamma Triangulum
Gamma Trianguli marks one corner of the tiny Triangulum, the austere figure traced by three white stars north of Aries. It is an A-type star 112 light-years away, young and hot, spinning so fast that it flattens slightly at the poles. Around it, infrared observations have revealed a dusty disc: the cold remains of a forming system, distant cousins of the rings seen around the youngest stars in the solar neighbourhood.
Where it is and when to see it
Gamma Triangulum lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is November, when it culminates around midnight.

- From New York it culminates about 83° above the horizon.
- From Sydney it culminates about 22° above the horizon.
It can be seen from anywhere north of 56° S.
It ranks no. 3 in brightness among the 18 stars of Triangulum in our catalogue. To find it, start from Beta Triangulum, the brightest: it lies about 2° away (a fist at arm's length covers about 10°).
