30 Capricorni is a blue B-type star, far hotter and more luminous than the Sun, set in the modest figure of the zodiacal Sea-Goat. Its hue betrays surface temperatures of tens of thousands of degrees. Its light departs more than five centuries ago toward us, crossing a region of sky sparsely populated with bright stars.
Where it is and when to see it
30 Capricorni lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
