What is Chi Capricorni
Chi Capricorni is a white A-type star in the goat-fish, a zodiacal constellation the Sun crosses at the end of the northern summer. Its light crosses some 180 years before reaching us —as many as separate today's observer from the birth of the telegraph. Modest in brightness but hot in surface, it belongs to the spectrum of stars that dominate galactic youth, long before they age toward the red of the giants.
Where it is and when to see it
Chi Capricorni lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
