Theta Delphini is an extraordinarily luminous orange giant, lying more than two thousand light-years away in the little Dolphin. Its light, which set out when the Roman Empire was still consolidating its frontiers, crosses the void with the intensity of a star far more massive than the Sun. Delphinus is one of the oldest constellations of the Greek sky, tied to the rescue of Arion by one of these sea creatures.

Theta Delphinus lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August, when it culminates around midnight.

It can be seen from anywhere north of 77° S.
