In Sagittarius, the archer aiming toward the very heart of the galaxy, burns an orange K-class giant with millennial warmth. Its light took more than three hundred and fifty years to cross the void to us, leaving when Velázquez was painting Las Meninas in the Madrid court. Cooler and enormously larger than the Sun, it pulses with the coppery patina of stars that have known how to endure.
