Hot blue star

Its story

16 Sagittarii is a fiercely hot blue multiple system, a candidate quadruple star with at least one inner spectroscopic binary on a roughly thirteen-day orbit. Together with its neighbour 15 Sgr it ionises a vast region of hydrogen on the rim of a molecular cloud, sculpting the gas around it. It lies so far that modern measurements place it thousands of light-years out, towards the galactic centre.
