What is Rho 2 Sagittarii
Rho-2 Sagittarii is an orange K-type giant lying some 332 light-years away, in the Archer, the constellation that points toward the very centre of our galaxy. It is a sun that has left its youth behind and swollen into a warm, ruddy beacon, one of many that populate one of the densest regions of the sky, just where the Milky Way blazes most strongly for the summer observer.
Where it is and when to see it
Rho 2 Sagittarii lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is July: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
