28 Aquilae —catalogued among variables as V1208 Aquilae— is a white-yellow F0III giant whose variability was discovered by Michel Breger in 1969. It belongs to the Delta Scuti group and pulses simultaneously at two distinct frequencies, 6.68 and 7.12 cycles per day —overlapping rhythms beating at once—. At 337 light-years, in the body of the celestial Eagle, it has been a classic entry in pulsation catalogues for half a century.
Where it is and when to see it
28 Aquilae lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is July: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
