A pure A-type white rests in the plumage of Pavo, some 299 light-years away. Its light set off toward the southern sky when Bach was premiering his first cantatas in Leipzig and the Enlightenment was barely stammering its opening words. Clean, cold and exact, its glow recalls a sustained note in the middle of the austral silence.
