What is HIP 93624
In the Telescope, Telescopium, shines an orange type-K star 325 light-years away, in the small constellation that Lacaille named in honour of the astronomer's instrument. Its light departed in the eighteenth century, when Diderot and D'Alembert's Encyclopédie was being published and the Enlightenment was mapping all of human knowledge. Cooler than the Sun, its copper glow embodies the golden repose of mature giants.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 93624 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is July: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
