Its journey toward us began around the year 700, at the height of the Umayyad caliphate's expansion across the Mediterranean. Much larger and far cooler than the Sun, it has already consumed nearly all its nuclear fuel and exhales slow envelopes into the void.

HIP 97598 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is July, when it culminates around midnight.
