What is 90 Herculis
90 Herculis is a K-type orange giant 354 light-years away, in a constellation honouring the Greek hero of the twelve labours. The region is crossed by the solar apex, the point in the sky toward which the Sun travels along its galactic orbit at about 20 km per second. Its coppery light departed while Louis XIV still reigned in France.
Where it is and when to see it
90 Herculis lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is June: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
