45 Herculis is a blue B-type star pinned to the hero's shoulder, nearly 394 light-years from here. Its brightness will not hold steady — it ripples with the rhythm of a hot, restless atmosphere. The photon arriving tonight left the star when telescopes were still brass pieces in the cabinets of princes.
