What is HIP 80843
In Hercules, hero of the northern sky, a yellow G-type star shines at about 628 light-years. Its light set out around the fourteenth century, when Europe was crossing the end of the Middle Ages amid Gothic cathedrals and the first universities. It shares the Sun s temperature, yet has already swollen its outer layers into a luminous giant, showing what our own star will become billions of years from now.

HIP 80843 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is May: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
