What is HIP 86313
In Serpens —the only constellation split in two by Ophiuchus who holds it— shines a K-type star, orange and unhurried, somewhat cooler than the Sun. Its light set out at the close of the seventeenth century, when Newton was formulating the law of universal gravitation and Dutch harbours loaded ships bound for the Indies. Almost four centuries later, it reaches the night at last.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 86313 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is June: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
