What is HIP 91322
At 523 light-years, in the Serpent held by Ophiuchus, shines a class A white star whose light set out at the start of the sixteenth century, when Leonardo da Vinci was painting his final canvases and Europe rode the edge of the Renaissance. Its pure white light is born of an atmosphere hotter than the Sun's, still young. It guards the body of the mythic reptile in the northern summer sky.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 91322 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is July: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
