Its story

47 Serpentis, also catalogued as FS Serpentis, is a vast M3.5 III red giant: about 83 times the Sun's radius, burning at barely 3,500 K on its lukewarm surface. It is a long-period variable, pulsing with the slowness of old giants approaching the final phase of their lives. Its reddish light took more than 800 years to reach us, crossing the interstellar spaces of the Serpent.
