What is HIP 8423
In Andromeda, the princess chained at the edge of the autumn sky, shines an orange K-type star, cooler than the Sun and of pale gold. Its light began the journey some 341 years ago, when Newton was publishing the Principia and rewriting the rules of the universe with a single mathematical gesture. It arrives now restful and warm, faithful to the serene character of orange suns.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 8423 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is November: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
