Variable starIts story
9 Andromedae sits within the elegant figure of the chained princess, the same constellation that hosts the famous spiral galaxy M31. It is a white A-type variable star, with a surface markedly hotter than the Sun's and a brightness that drifts gently with time. Its light crosses around four hundred and twenty-two years before touching Earth; when it set out, Europe was still in the throes of the religious wars of the seventeenth century.
