What is HIP 12181

At 177 light-years, within the body of Andromeda, a yellow-white F-type star burns with a glow more intense than the Sun's. Its light started for Earth around the time of the Battle of Trafalgar, when Nelson was breaking the Franco-Spanish fleet and Europe was redrawing dominion over the Atlantic.

Where it is and when to see it

HIP 12181 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is November: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
