What is HIP 6711
In Andromeda, the princess chained at the edge of the sea, shines a yellow-white F-type star 136 light-years away. Its light set out in the late nineteenth century, around the time of the first public cinema screening at the Salon Indien of the Grand Café in Paris. Hotter and more luminous than the Sun, it pulses among the threads of the mythic figure that shares the sky with the great galaxy bearing her name.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 6711 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is October: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
