What is HIP 83962
An F-type yellow-white star caught among the grasses of Ophiuchus, some 135 light-years away. Its light left when Beethoven was still composing his late string quartets and stagecoaches were the fastest way to cross Europe. That same brightness, after a century and a quarter on the road, now reaches the observer's lens.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 83962 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is June: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
