What is HIP 81992
In Scorpius shines a white A-type star whose light set out around the year 1318, when Dante was finishing the Divine Comedy. Hotter and more luminous than the Sun, it wears the clean white of stars still young. It crossed seven centuries of space to join, discreetly, the rich tapestry of stars surrounding the red heart of the southern scorpion.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 81992 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is June: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
