Its story
In the sprawling Scorpius shines an orange giant some 1063 light-years away. Its light set off around the year 963, when Persian astronomers such as Al-Sufi were carefully cataloguing the stars of the Arab sky. Cooler and more voluminous than the Sun, its warm glow fades slowly among the dust-laden nebulosities that paint this stretch of the Milky Way.
