What is Mu Piscium

Mu Piscium is an orange giant some 304 light-years away in the constellation of the fishes, that zigzagging ribbon that closes the zodiac. Its light —typical of mature K stars— appears modestly in a sky region thinly populated by bright stars. It marks one of the knots of the imaginary cord that ties the two fishes by the tail.

Where it is and when to see it

Mu Piscium lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is October, when it culminates around midnight.

From London it culminates about 45° above the horizon.
From New York it culminates about 55° above the horizon.
From Sydney it culminates about 50° above the horizon.

It can be seen from anywhere north of 84° S.
