What is Phi Piscium

Phi Piscium is an orange star at 446 light-years, anchored in the most aquatic constellation of the zodiac. Its K-type spectrum betrays an atmosphere cooler than the Sun's, displaying the kind of delicate spectral lines that nineteenth-century astronomers patiently learned to read as chemical fingerprints. A warm, old light slipping silently between the two tethered fishes that mark the closing chapter of the zodiacal year.

Phi Piscium lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is October, when it culminates around midnight.

From London it culminates about 63° above the horizon.
From New York it culminates about 74° above the horizon.
From Sydney it culminates about 32° above the horizon.

It can be seen from anywhere north of 65° S.
