What is HIP 68079
In Centaurus shines an orange class K star at 318 light-years. Its light began its journey around 1708, when the War of the Spanish Succession was leaving deep marks across Europe and Jesuit astronomers were observing the southern sky from Chile and Peru. It is cooler than the Sun and emits preferentially at long wavelengths, which gives it its characteristic golden-orange tone, serene and unchanging over geological ages.

HIP 68079 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is May: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
