Its story

14 Comae Berenices is the second brightest star of the Coma Star Cluster —that faint swarm that looks like loose hair across the spring sky—. It is a shell star: it spins so fast that its atmosphere streams off in a gaseous ring visible in its spectrum. Its shape is a flattened ellipsoid, the equator bulging more than ten percent above the poles. The light we see set out around 1750.
