What is 89 Piscium

89 Piscium is a white A-type star strung along the long cord of the Fishes, the zodiacal constellation that traces two silhouettes joined by a ribbon. Hotter and more luminous than the Sun, it shines from 246 light-years with the cool sharpness typical of A-type stars. The light tracing it tonight set out around 1780, as William Herschel was readying the telescope with which he would discover Uranus a year later.

89 Piscium lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is October, when it culminates around midnight.

From London it culminates about 42° above the horizon.
From New York it culminates about 53° above the horizon.
From Sydney it culminates about 52° above the horizon.

It can be seen from anywhere north of 86° S.
