2 Draconis is an orange K0III giant, twelve times the Sun's diameter and 49 times its luminosity, sustained at around 4,850 K. Its age is contested —ranging from just over one billion to more than six billion years— a tension sharpened by its unusually low metal content. Its warm light crosses the northern Dragon from 238 light-years away.

Where it is and when to see it

2 Draco lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is January, when it culminates around midnight.

From London it never sets and culminates about 72° up.
From New York it never sets and culminates about 61° up.
From Sydney it never rises above the horizon.

It can be seen from anywhere north of 21° S.
