What is HIP 45915

An old red variable suspended in the bowl of Ursa Major, some 752 light-years away. Its light began its journey when Marco Polo was returning to Venice from the court of Kublai Khan and Europe was starting to read tales of the East. It pulses slowly, as if measuring the night with a metronome weary of breathing.

HIP 45915 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is January: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
