What is HIP 41299
In the very long body of the serpent Hydra shines an orange type-K star, cooler than the Sun, with the warm hue of a candle seen from afar. Its light set out almost 900 years ago, when master builders were raising the first Gothic cathedrals in France and the stone sky was filling with stained glass. It has travelled while the centuries changed creed and monarch, arriving today with the same serenity as then.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 41299 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is January: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
