What is HIP 43798

Back in Hydra, now near the border with Canis Minor, this K-class orange shines at four hundred and forty-six light-years. Its light set out around 1580, the year Francis Drake completed the first English circumnavigation of the globe aboard the Golden Hind. Cooler than the Sun yet presumably wider, the K-class lends it that warm tone the human eye reads as ancient.

HIP 43798 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is February: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
