Its story

In Puppis, the stern of the ancient ship Argo, burns an orange giant whose light departed in the early seventeenth century, when Galileo first aimed his spyglass at the heavens. Cooler than the Sun yet far more luminous, it radiates with the calm of evolved stars. Its warm glow rests within a southern sky whose celestial cartography was only beginning to be made precise.
