Hot blue starIts story
More than 921 light-years away in the constellation Stern burns a blue type-B star whose light departed in the heart of the Middle Ages, when Gothic cathedrals were rising across Europe. Far more massive, hotter and thousands of times more luminous than the Sun, its surface comfortably exceeds ten thousand degrees. Its bluish hue betrays its youth and its haste: such stars burn briefly in exchange for a disproportionate brilliance. It reaches us as a medieval echo of light.
