Variable starIts story
In Carina burns an M-type star, red and vast, far cooler than the Sun yet far larger; its brightness wavers slowly like a cosmic breath. Its light began its journey almost a millennium ago, when eleventh-century Chinese astronomers recorded the supernova that would make the Crab Nebula famous. It arrives now with that same millennial patience.
