Its story

A blue type-B beacon burns on the Stern of Puppis, 1,094 light-years from Earth. Its glow crossed the Mediterranean in the days when the Romanesque rose in stone and monasteries copied manuscripts by candlelight. Hotter and more massive than the Sun, this electric flame was born to live briefly and shine fiercely —an intense life that barely surfaces through the telescope.
