Its story
12 Puppis shines from more than eight hundred light-years away, in what was once the stern of the great Argo Navis, the mythical ship later dismantled by modern astronomers into three separate constellations. It is a yellow G-class star, similar in colour to our Sun but far larger and brighter for its light to travel that far. We watch it drift slowly across the southern skies.
