What is Kappa Geminorum
κ Geminorum is a yellow G-type giant some 141 light-years away, in the region of the Twins' feet. Larger and more luminous than the Sun, she offers the serene portrait of what our own star will become billions of years from now, once it exhausts its core hydrogen and swells into helium-burning maturity.
Where it is and when to see it
Kappa Geminorum lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is January: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
