What is HIP 36732
In Puppis, once part of the mythical ship Argo, it shines with the orange light of class K stars, cooler than the Sun. The light observed set out 272 years ago: when it did, Voltaire was publishing his polemical writings in Paris and the first steam engines were beginning to transform manual work in England. It is a stable star, with no variability or companion, one more among the golden suns studding the southern regions of the sky through which the ancient Argo sailed.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 36732 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is January: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
